Thallon rainfall and tank sizing
The Bureau of Meteorology records mean annual rainfall of 505.9 mm at Mungindi Post Office (station 052020), based on 139 years of observations. Mungindi is a nearby reference station, not a Thallon rain gauge. A long-term average does not show year-to-year variation or guarantee how much water a roof will collect.
Use the Thallon tank-size calculator to estimate storage using location rainfall, roof area and water use. It opens with Thallon selected. The result is a planning estimate, not a guarantee of supply.

Local water supply, council rules and rebates
Balonne Shire Council lists Thallon’s town supply as untreated artesian bore water. Council says its bore supply is potable and tested monthly. Council also notes stored rainwater is not always safe to drink. Rainwater can generally be suitable for drinking when the collection and storage system is maintained and the water quality is appropriate.
NRRTanks sells filtration systems Australia-wide. Browse filtration systems and rainwater accessories in our online store. The right filtration depends on water quality and intended use; filtration alone does not guarantee drinking-water safety. Full filtration and rainwater-system installation is available in the Northern Rivers only. Thallon is outside that installation area.
Read Balonne Shire Council’s water-services and rebate guidance and check its current building and plumbing requirements for your property. We could not verify a current Balonne Shire rainwater-tank rebate in the council information reviewed on 28 October 2026. Confirm current programs and eligibility directly with Council.
